BALLASALLA PRIMARY SCHOOL
NEWS LETTER
29TH APRIL 2008

We continue to have lots of exciting activities taking place in the school.

Year 2 spent a day at the beach looking at the plants and animals they found there. Whilst they were there, they made an interesting scientific discovery. They discovered an abundance of sea hares, an animal thought to be quite rare on the Isle of Man. This finding is of use to the scientific community, so congratulations to our own young scientists who made this find. Thank you very much too all the helpers who made this exciting day possible.

We hosted football and netball matches against Victoria Road School. We were very pleased that we won both football matches and our netball teams won one and drew one of their matches. So well done to all who took part and a huge thank you to Mr Baker and Miss Kermode who came in each week to coach our team and also to Miss Wheeler for organising it all.

On Wednesday last week (23rd April) we took three teams to take part in a football and netball tournament at Buchan School. We all had a most enjoyable day playing several matches – we won some, drew some and lost some. The children enjoyed themselves and thanks are due to the adults mentioned above for all their support and also to our student teachers Mr Barker and Miss Christy who also helped.

On Friday (25th April) Mr Ian Dunbar of Colas came into school to talk to the children about safety and he donated 30 high-visibility jackets to school for the children to wear when out on class trips. We are very grateful to them for this generous gift.

Our Year 6 children have been working on the ‘Tell Me Project’, along with other children in year 6 and 9 across the island. You may have read about it in the newspapers. The children have been interviewing and recording memories from older members of their families. Castle Rushen High School have mounted an exhibition, at the airport, of work on this project and all the partner primary schools agreed to contribute one board to this exhibition to show what we have been doing. Two children, along with their grandparent who was interviewed, represented the school at the opening of the exhibition yesterday (28th April) If you are passing through the airport do take the opportunity to have a look at it. Thank you to all our children, and their friends, relatives, and teacher who worked on this project.

Please can I let you know that our Lost Property box is overflowing? I will put it outside at the end of a few school days if it is fine, alternating between the infant and junior entrances. Please do take a look and reclaim your children’s possessions. Please do try to put a name on your child’s clothes, as we can then get things straight back to them.

Finally, do remember that Monday 5th May is a Bank Holiday so we are not in school.

Mrs J Barrow Headteacher.
