New Bishop preaches at Malew

Over 200 hundred people gathered together yesterday evening to witness the new Lord Bishop of Sodor and Man - the Right Reverend Robert Paterson - begin his public ministry on the Island in a style steeped in tradition.

Bishop Robert retraced the steps of his predecessors from times gone-by when new bishops would have landed on the Island at Castletown and travelled on horseback to the ancient Parish church of Malew, before heading to St Patrick's Isle for their enthronement.

He opted to travel via landau carriage to Malew where he proceeded to give his first sermon, taking as his theme a desire to draw together the old and the new, something which it's thought will form a key part of his ministry on the Island:

The first sermon in full will be broadcast on Manx Radio on Sunday morning 'Praise' with Judith Ley, and Bishop Robert's enthronement service, which will take place in St German's Cathedral on Saturday, will be broadcast on our FM network this Sunday evening starting at 9pm.
