Warning to anglers to follow the rules

Fisheries Division member Graham Cregeen, MHK says he is committing more resources to enforcing fishing regulations in 2008, following a string of offences last year.

And with the new reservoir fishing season well under way, DAFF is also asking all anglers to make sure they are fully aware of all the rules.

This week an Onchan man was banned from fishing in fresh water for 12 months after pleading guilty to landing fish without a net and catching, and killing more trout than allowed at West Baldwin Reservoir last September.

The tackle he used has been confiscated and he was also fined £100 with £150 costs.

Mr Cregeen (pictured) says fishing opportunities in the Island's reservoirs are better than ever this year, so there is no need for anglers to run the risk of a disqualification and fine for breaking the rules.
