Parishioners show off talents at Malew Eisteddfod

ELDERLY people in the parish of Malew will find it easier to pay their winter fuel bills, thanks to £250 raised at Malew Eisteddfod.

The eisteddfod has been a feature of life in the village for decades and proceeds go to the Malew Endowment Committee, which gives out fuel vouchers to help elderly people pay their bills.

In the afternoon, children showed off their talents and the event was very well attended, said organiser Isy Collister, who thanked Ballasalla Primary School for being the motivating force behind the children's enthusiasm.

The chairman was Donald Gelling, the accompanist Roisin Thornton-Carr, music was judged by Lynda Watterson and the literary classes by Annie Kissack.

The adults had their turn in the evening and although it was less well attended, Isy said 'we still managed to entertain ourselves'.
The chairman was President of Tynwald Noel Cringle, the accompanist was Madeline Kelly, music was judged by Ken Bawden and the literary classes by John Kennaugh.

A very good raffle with lots of prizes donated by local traders, helped to swell the coffers.

John Moore who died last year and was chairman of the Malew Endowment Committee for 25 years was remembered at the end of the evening.
