Urgent Message from David Cannan MHK

FROM:            DAVID CANNAN MHK

DATE:             9TH FEBRUARY 2010

SUBJECT:       RECIPROCAL HEALTH AGREEMENT

This is the last opportunity to obtain Universal Health Cover both for Island residents visiting the United Kingdom and U.K. residents visiting the Island is for Tynwald to support my Motion at next weeks sitting Tuesday 16th February 2010

My Motion is the last item on the Order Paper - Item 22.  The Motion reads - "That Tynwald notes that as from 1st April 2010 the United Kingdom Department of Health and will no longer provide a reciprocal health agreement under which Isle of Man residents visiting the United Kingdom will receive free healthcare except for the provision of G.P. Services and treatment at Accident and Emergency facilities; and further that Tynwald is of the opinion that the Isle of Man Government should cover the cost of:-

a)    Isle of Man residents receiving NHS treatment in the United Kingdom and

b)    United Kingdom residents receiving NHS treatment in the Isle of Man

If is the majority wish of Isle of Man residents that Government should pay the costs, approximately £3 Million, that would be incurred by my Motion being successful then there must be a massive high profile groundswell of public opinion and lobbying of Members of Tynwald.

Note from Editor:
Thank you to David Cannan and Edith Quaggin for keeping us informed of this.

BADRA members and residents of the Isle of Man are encouraged to attend if possible Tynwald on Tuesday 16th February 2010 to support the Motion
