Heritage Homes/Dandara Planning Application

Ref: 08/02303/A 30TH DECEMBER 2008

Approval in principle to re - align highway and create roundabout to provide access to adjacent land, Part Of Fields 432607, 434113 & 434764 (and Including Section Of Public Highway) Adjacent To Glashen Close A5 Douglas Road Ballasalla MALEW.

The above planning application for a roundabout was received by Malew Commissioners on the 30th December 2008, and is being considered by them on Wednesday 14th January 2009.

Having looked at the plans, which are available for viewing in the Commissioners office in Ballasalla, it shows that Heritage Homes/Dandara wish to install a roundabout on the A5 Douglas Road Ballasalla just north of Glashen Close, there are only 2 exits off the roundabout, one running south down Douglas road to Ballasalla Village, and the second runs westerly ending just behind Glashen Close right up against the Old Glashen Farm, although this route appears to be going nowhere the application is titled ‘Crossag Farm’. Lip service is paid to the possible By-pass/ relief road, although no exit east bound is shown, an arrow is marked stating possible access to By-Pass, or words to that affect.

This is the fourth plan for a roundabout in this area, the first having been planned just south of Glashen Close, and refused on Appeal in 2003, an appeal which also included the statement from the DoT, that ‘even if the plan was passed the DoT would not permit the scheme to continue’ for a number of reasons, including the fact that it would represent an unlawful interference with the carriageway. And it would result in a tight radii causing serious difficulties to HGVs.
