Concerns Voiced over Airport Hangars
The following statement was released by Malew Commissioners on 6th May 2010, over local concerns over plans for 2 Executive Plane hangars to built next to the museum beside the main Castletown road, these plans due to the Town and country Planning Act do not require planning permission.
'
"The Board agreed that the Clerk submit comments to The Dept of Infrastructure, with a copy to Mr Gawne MHK and Mr Cregeen MHK, that whilst welcoming the facility, the location and design of the proposed hanger would be detrimental to the amenity of the area. There are also concerns about the way in which a building of this size and design can be built within the realms of the Town & Country Planning (Permitted Development) Order 2005 Part 3 – Aviation Operations, when it will have such a visual impact. "
It is felt locally that maybe some form of inquiry should be held on the grounds stated by the Commissioners that there are concerns over the visual impact it is also felt locally that the original idea of the order was for construction by Government within the Airport and not for use by private companies as in this case Buisness Aviation Centre Ltd.
In conclusion it is felt locally that the facility is welcomed, but there are concerns over design as the buildings are to be predominatly red brick and silver grey cladding and on location they are in full view from the main A5 Douglas to Castletown Road, there are a number of less intrusive locations fot the Hangars.
