1st Malew celebrate centenary

Around 70 cubs, scouts, beavers and explorers have held a huge sleepover in Ballasalla to mark their group's centenary.

The youngsters of the 1st Malew group, spanning an age range from six to 20, came together for the giant party, 100 years to the day after it was first formed.

Their leaders served a slap-up Christmas dinner in the community hall, before the candles were blown out on two huge cakes.

Then it was games galore, campfire songs and despite the weather, a night hike.

Group Scout leader Neil Young says the event is living proof scouting is as popular now as it ever was.
